Food & beverage, commonly known as F&B, is one of the most effective ways for family entertainment centers to grow revenue.
After all, kids running around your play space need some sort of drink or food option to keep them going! Mom & dad would also appreciate a few options for themselves, too.
Offering food & beverage keeps families engaged for a longer amount of time at your facility. It also encourages them to keep coming back.
In this article, we’ll share 5 food & beverage tips you may want to consider whether you already offer F&B at your facility or are totally new to the industry!
5 Food & Beverage Tips to Grow Your FEC Revenue
Let’s jump in!
1. Tap into your local F&B community
If you’re a totally new facility without a full kitchen, tap into your local community.
For example, you may want to collaborate with a local bakery or local food trucks and offer their food & beverage options to your customers.
Are you a PCS Customer? Great! Pull up a Vendor Report to see what you sold from a particular vendor to see if it helped increase your sales.
2. Offer a unique F&B option
Customers love your facility because there is something unique about it, be it a particular attraction, game, or experience you offer. Add to this uniqueness by also offering a one-of-a-kind food & beverage option.
For example, one of our customers, Jake’s Unlimited, is known for its Unicorn Taco! This cotton candy treat attracts customers from all over the world.
Is there something you can offer that’s easy, inexpensive, but fun for the whole crowd? Put it on your menu and watch it increase your sales!
3. Consider the DIY route
Whatever you’re able to do on your own can make a difference.
Head over to your local Sam’s Club or Costco and pick up any tray foods, drinks, and/or snacks you can resell at a reasonable rate.
If you offer party packages, you can offer these drinks, snacks, trays, or desserts as add-ons!
4. Consider getting a beer & wine license (or offering fancy drinks in general!)
Some facilities might be concerned about serving alcoholic beverages, but this will surely give you an additional boost in revenue. Parents might want to enjoy a cold one or a glass of wine while their kids play!
Of course, there are rules and measures you can put in place to ensure the safety of your guests while also giving them the option to purchase an alcoholic beverage if they want to.
Getting a full bar license might be out-of-reach for certain facilities, but a simple beer & wine license is far more accessible for most.
If your base doesn’t consist of alcohol drinkers, take some inspiration from “Play Cafes”! Can you offer a fancy coffee or other warm beverage? Can you offer some baked goods to go along with that?
Can you create a simple hot chocolate station around the holidays with marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, and other items?
What about fancy lemonades or ice teas with different syrup flavoring options around the summertime? These options are both creative and will keep customers coming back!
5. Keep it simple
At the end of the day, families love it when you keep things simple.
Remember, a little goes a long way when it comes to F&B.
Sometimes offering just a few interesting drink or snack options can make a huge difference in terms of revenue.
